Dry ice for low-fog effects at London events

Nice Ice supplies dry ice in London for low-lying fog effects at weddings, parties, theatre shows and photo shoots. Dry ice comes in 5kg packs at £45, with a minimum order of 10kg and at least 2 days' notice. Every order includes a safety confirmation. For buying and shipping uses, see our main dry ice in London page.

How dry ice fog works

Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide at around −78.5°C. When you place it in warm or hot water, it turns straight into gas and produces a thick white fog. Because the cold gas is heavier than air, the fog stays low and spreads across the floor, which gives the classic "dancing on clouds" look. Warmer water gives more fog. As the water cools, the effect slows, so topping up with warm water keeps it going. Use a sturdy container that can handle the cold.

How much to order: 10kg minimum, 5kg packs at £45

  • 5kg packs at £45 each.
  • Minimum order 10kg (2 packs, £90).
  • How much you need depends on how long you want the fog to run, the size of the space and how often you top up.
  • Dry ice slowly turns to gas even when stored, so plan to use it soon after delivery. See how long dry ice lasts.

Ordering: 2 days' notice and the safety tick

Order dry ice at least 2 days before you need it. At checkout, you tick to confirm you have read our dry ice safety guide. Delivery runs Monday to Saturday in an 8am–1pm or 1pm–5pm slot. Dry ice does not count towards the 5 bags for free delivery, but you can add 12kg bags of cube or crushed ice to the same order.

Handling safety: gloves, ventilation, storage

  • Always wear insulated gloves. Never touch dry ice with bare skin.
  • Use it in a well-ventilated space. Carbon dioxide builds up in closed or low-lying areas.
  • Never store it in an airtight container: the gas needs to escape.
  • Keep it in an insulated box, away from children and pets.
  • Don't transport it in a closed car without ventilation.
  • Let leftover dry ice turn to gas in a well-ventilated area. Don't put it down a sink or toilet.

Weddings, Halloween, theatre and photo shoots

Fog effects are popular for a first dance (see wedding ice delivery), for Halloween parties (see dry ice fog for Halloween), for school and theatre productions, for corporate stage reveals (see corporate event ice), and for photo and video shoots. Check the venue's rules before you plan an effect, and make sure the space is well ventilated.

Dry ice fog FAQs

How long does dry ice fog last? It depends on the water temperature and how much dry ice you add. Fog is strongest in warm water and fades as the water cools, so top up with warm water to keep it going.

How much dry ice for a first dance? Our minimum order of 10kg (2 × 5kg packs) is the starting point. Ask your venue or DJ how long the effect should run and plan from there.

How much notice do you need? At least 2 days.

How should I store dry ice before the event? In an insulated box that is not airtight, in a well-ventilated place, away from children and pets. Use it soon after delivery. See our dry ice safety guide.
